Donley County is a squared county located within the Panhandle of Texas.  The Courthouse in Clarendon, Texas was originally designed by C.H. Bulger and Isaac Hamilton Rapp and built by the Troutman Brothers from Trinidad, CO.

The building was completed in 1891 and the offices were then moved into the newly built courthouse.  The architectural style is known as Victorian Romanesque Revival because of the four elevations being different.  There are no other courthouses like it within the State of Texas.

In 2000, the County Courthouse applied for and received a grant from the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.  It was in 2003, that the Donley County Courthouse was in full force for the renovation due to the odor of bat excrement in the attic, the deteriorating Victorian structure and the long time need of central air conditioning.  This need for renovation was not taken lightly because of the fertile environment for fungus that could cause respiratory illness in humans from the bat guano.

Pine's Stone Company, Inc. matched the stone, (Bandera Gray) located it and provided the drawings for the railings that would be installed within the courthouse.
